Christina Brunskill
Christina (prefers to be called Tina) works as case manager with a local non-profit and has bachelor’s in forensic psychology from St. Francis Xavier University (Antigonish, Nova Scotia). She is obtaining her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
Christina uses a variety of therapy approaches in her work, including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), client-centered therapy, Mindfulness, and narrative therapy. Tina is passionate about working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are experiencing a variety of struggles, such as relationship problems, trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, loneliness, life transitions, self-esteem, stress, grief, personality disorders, addiction, ADHD, OCD, and more. She feels honoured to walk with clients on their journeys toward self-development.
Christina takes a person-centered and collaborative approach to support her clients on their journey towards a greater well-being, helps them to facilitate positive change, process their trauma, grow, heal, and accomplish their goals while discovering their inner strengths and resilience. She believes that a genuine, positive therapy relationship is a crucial instrument for growth and healing and therefore strives to create a non-judgmental, empathetic, and culturally sensitive space that feels comfortable and safe for clients to share their feelings, thoughts, and unique experiences. She recognizes “one size does not fit all”,and tailors her approach and techniques to meet her clients’ individual needs. Her goal is to help folx she supports feel empowered, feel safe, seen and supported. Her clients often share that she helps them create a well-balanced life and allows them to feel like their own therapist using the tools that they have gained through therapy which often involves trauma informed somatic work.
Christina is originally from Alberta with Swedish roots and understands the intricacies of human mind, takes a holistic person-centered and socially just/culturally responsive approach in her work to support her clients on their paths towards greater well-being. Her philosophy is that clients are a greater than the sum of their parts and recognizes the links between physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. As an LGBTQ ally, She continues to take additional courses, classes and webinars for her own growth, believes that unconditional positive regard and a strong therapeutic relationship are crucial for growth and healing and therefore strives to create a non-judgemental, empathetic, and inclusive space for all clients, regardless of ability or experience with counselling. She recognizes that treatment will look different for everyone and tailors her approach and techniques to meet her clients’ individual needs. Tina uses evidence-based and trauma-informed techniques to help her clients with whatever brought them into her office. Her goal is to support clients in helping themselves solve their own problems with clinical tools, so they can learn to be their own counsellor and graduate from her service.
