Ivreen Sangha
My name is Ivreen. I have a joint major in Criminology and Psychology from SFU. Currently, I am finishing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I will be a practicum student at Wellness North.
I have experience working as a behavior interventionist and volunteering/working at a mental health helpline. Both roles have taught me to remain patient, empathetic and non-judgemental. I got inspired to pursue my Master’s in Counselling Psychology after these roles because of my ability to provide hope in so many individuals’ lives while being an active listener, providing empathy and being supportive in their daily struggles.
I am a first-generation South Asian female, so I come from a culture where mental health comes along with stigma. I want to break those barriers and be able to help those who grew up hearing about the stigma.
Using a person-centered and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach, I intend to help those who deal with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, life transitions, bullying, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm.
My goal is to create a warm and inviting environment for all individuals to share their life stories. I understand that therapy will look different for everyone, and I am determined to find an approach that fits the clients’ needs.
