Jennifer Knechtel
Jennifer is currently working towards completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.Her previous education includes a Bachelor of Arts that focused on Humanities and Gender,Sexuality,and Women’s Studies as well as a Post Baccalaureate in Counselling and Human Development from Simon Fraser University.With her educational background and experience working as a personal fitness trainer for the last six years,Jennifer is familiar working with a range of ages, multicultural identities,gender and sexuality identities,and abilities.
Jennifer is particularly passionate about working with those within the LGBTQIA2S+ community as well as anyone experiencing chronic pain and/or illness.She primarily uses a Person-Centered,Culturally Responsive, Strengths-Based approach along with an intersectional perspective that takes into account a person’s multiple,intersecting identities and how they relate to various struggles and concerns.Jennifer considers an individual’s unique experiences and needs and may incorporate other approaches,such as Affirmative therapy,Solutions-Focused therapy, Narrative therapy,and Mindfulness.She emphasizes collaboration,nonjudgemental listening,and understanding the client’s experiences from their perspective in order to help guide them towards growth,positive change, and acceptance.
During her free time,Jennifer works out mainly through weight training to help manage her chronic pain.She also likes to spend time in her garden and taking care of her many houseplants.
