Joan is excited to join Wellness North as a clinical intern on her path to become a registered clinical counsellor. She has completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology course work at Yorkville University. Joan has a certification in therapeutic tutoring, a BA in Communications, an MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities, and a coaching certification through the International Coaching Federation.
Joan’s approach to counselling is grounded in the belief that each person is a uniquely capable and sacred individual. Whether you are experiencing career or life transitions, relational conflict, anxiety or depression, grief or loss, Joan will meet you with attentive empathy, hope, and kindness. Taking into consideration the cultural, social, and family systems that shape who we are, Joan seeks to support meaningful change, healing, and resilience.
Through a collaborative, person-centred approach, she helps clients gain perspective, assess barriers, build self-compassion, and reconnect with innate strengths and values using techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
Joan has over 20 years of leadership experience in strategic marketing-communications and occupational health, and has navigated many life challenges. In her free time, she enjoys Pilates, tending her garden, learning German, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her three kids and six grandchildren.
